Three social events will be offered at the conference for registered attendees. In addition, we plan to coordinate several non-hosted companion tours during the conference itself.
Companion Program
We are organizing a sightseeing tour for Wednesday, July 6th. If enough people are interested, we will book a group tour such as Dylan’s Famous Tour: http://www.dylanstours.com/minibus-tours-page
If you are interested in doing a conference group tour, please email Mark Kemp (mkemp@slac.stanford.edu) by Monday, July 27. Please send the number of people attending and their names. The tickets cost $89 for adults and $55 for children under 12. We will let you know late in the following week if there are enough people for a group tour.
If you are interested in booking tours individually, Yelp is a good source for recommendations. Some of the options to consider include the following:
The Real San Francisco Tour: https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-real-sf-tour-san-francisco
Foodie Adventures: https://www.yelp.com/biz/foodie-adventures-san-francisco
Dylan’s Tours: https://www.yelp.com/biz/dylans-tours-san-fancisco?osq=sightseeing+tours
Wild SF Walking Tours: https://www.yelp.com/biz/wild-sf-walking-tours-san-francisco-2?osq=sightseeing+tours
The week of July 4th is typically a busy time for tour operators. If you are interested booking any of the sightseeing tours yourself, please do so early and definitely before your arrival in San Francisco.
Welcome Reception, Tuesday, July 5
We will be hosting a welcome reception with drinks and hors d'oeuvres in the Grand Ballroom of the Palace from 6 - 8 PM. The event is free for all registered conference attendees (excluding single day pass)!
Night-Out Event, Wednesday, July 6
The conference night out will be at the San Francisco Giants game versus the Colorado Rockies. We have the opportunity to enjoy some of the best seats in the house in addition to complementary food, drink, and merchandise credits. The game starts at 7:15PM and is either a short bus or train ride from the hotel, or about a mile walk. The event is free for all registered conference attendees (excluding single day pass)!
Directions and instructions on how to get from The Palace hotel to AT&T park can be downloaded here.
We will be giving placeholder tickets (a small carnival-type ticket) to registered attendees when they check into the conference. If people would like to sit together at the ball game, the group (or designated individual) should gather the placeholder tickets and exchange them at the conference registration desk for actual tickets. We will have tickets available from the afternoon of the 5th until after the poster session on the 6th.
We have a variety of ticket types available, ranging from club seats to bleacher seats. A map of available tickets will be displayed at the registration counter and can be viewed here. We have a special bonus in that each ticket will have a barcode which has added "splash cash" added. These funds can be used for food, drinks, and merchandise at the ball park. The amount of cash on each ticket depends on the level of the ticket. For example, club seats will have $12 added, while bleacher seats will have $50.
Conference Banquet, Thursday, July 7
We will be hosting the conference banquet the evening of Thursday, July 7. The event is free for all registered conference attendees!
