Welcome

The 2022 International Power Modulator and High Voltage Conference (IPMHVC) co-located with Electrical Insulation Conference (EIC) was held in Knoxville, Tennessee USA June 19 – 23 at the Knoxville Convention Center (KCC). This was the first in-person event for IPMHVC since 2018 and since 2019 for EIC. It was also the first time (not including the canceled event in 2020 due to COVID-19) co-locating these two conferences which are sponsored by the IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society (DEIS). The Nuclear Plasma Sciences Society (NPSS) also is a technical co-sponsor of the IPMHVC.

Dr. Nancy Frost hosted a Workshop on Dissection Techniques Wednesday, 2022 June 22, 8am-12pm in person at IEEE EIC. The purpose of this Workshop was to have a discussion of specific Dissection Techniques, pros and cons, methodologies and equipment, for the dissection of form wound coils and bars used in stators of rotating equipment.

On Tuesday June 21, 2022 IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society sponsored an on-site catered diversity and inclusion lunch with a program related to increasing awareness around diversity and inclusion. Diversity can be defined in various ways, but ultimately bringing together and welcoming different perspectives leads to greater innovation.  Come learn more about how to foster a diverse and inclusive environment. The option to attend the lunch has a nominal fee of $10 FREE, that appears when registering for the conference. Refunds for those who have already paid will be provided at the conference. The number of seats is limited and on a first come basis, so do not delay if you are interested.  If you have any questions regarding the lunch or program, please reach out to Elizabeth Foley at Dr.E.Foley@ieee.org.  If you have questions about registration, please contact Liz Tillotson at ekt@soton.ac.uk.  We look forward to seeing you at the conference!

Knoxville is in the heart of East Tennessee located in the foothills of the nearby Smoky Mountains. It is one of the most beautiful areas in the United States. Guests can visit the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the most popular national park in the country. Knoxville’s revitalized urban center is teeming with local shops, restaurants and entertainment venues, all within easy walking distance of to the Convention Center.

2022 IEEE Power Modulator and High Voltage Conference

Congratulations to our 2022 IPMHVC Professional Award Winners

The William G. Dunbar Award is awarded to two people this year. Dr. Martin Gundersen For contributions to the development of high voltage plasma discharge switches, solid state pulsed power devices, and their commercial applications” and Dr. Ravi Joshi “For contributions to the science of electrical breakdown of liquids and biological applications of pulsed high voltage”.

The Sol Schneider Award is awarded to Mr. Richard Ness “For contributions to power modulator research and leadership in the development of the power modulator community”.

The IPMHVC conference has traditionally been held every two years and is an applied and research-oriented conference concerning repetitive pulsed power and power modulator technology, as well as high voltage theory, components, diagnostics, and subsystems.  The IPMHVC Technical Program will cover our traditional subjects in Dielectrics, Electromagnetic Phenomena, Emitters, High Voltage and Power Modulator Components, and Power Modulator Systems and Applications.  We will feature up to three short courses.  The event will include exhibitions representing state-of-the-art capabilities from government, universities, and industry. Specific technical topics include power conditioning and pulse shaping, high energy systems, energy storage devices and components, rotating machines and energy converters, high rep-rate systems and thermal management, high voltage design and analysis, high power microwaves and antennas, electromagnetic propagation, and prime power systems.

The IPMHVC Technically and Financially is sponsored by the IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society and Technically sponsored by the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society.

2022 Electrical Insulation Conference

The EIC is an annual applied conference on liquid, solid, and gaseous materials based in the Americas. The EIC Technical Program will cover practical application, analysis, and service experience of liquid, solid and gaseous insulation. The pre-conference event features short courses from well-known technical experts in areas of partial discharge, transformers, and rotating machinery. Exhibits and technical papers include the latest development of electrical insulation materials, condition assessment and diagnostics, instrumentation, transformers, switchgear, outdoor insulation, cable diagnostics, nano-dielectrics, testing technologies and others. Immediately after the Conference, a series of IEEE working group meetings will be held for discussions related to new IEEE standards and revisions to existing standards related to insulating materials. As usual, IEEE working group meetings are open to all interested guest participants. The papers present practical applications of electrical insulating systems and materials and diagnostics, for all types of electrical and electronic equipment will be presented in a concurrently running tracks or poster sessions.

The EIC is sponsored by the IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society.

Come join us in beautiful Knoxville, June 19-23, 2022!

Robert Saethre, IPMHVC General Conference Chair,

Diego Robalino, EIC General Conference Chair

The EIC and IPMHVC are aimed at fostering free discussion of scientific and technical topics but conference participants are expected to avoid any commercialization of their research activities or research results. Membership in IEEE, DEIS,NPSS, or other organizations is not required to participate in the Conference.

We always looking for volunteers to help plan and organize our events. Areas you can help include technical reviews, local arrangements planning, serving as a session chair or many other roles. Please contact any member of the organizing committees to see how you can assist.
